Lafayette Square, a designated National Historic District, is considered one of the most elegant (and highest priced areas) of StL city neighborhoods. One of the oldest neighborhoods in St Louis, it was once considered ‘the’ fashionable places to live. Today you can still find grand Victorian mansions lining private streets as well as colorful ‘pointed ladies’ and a plethora of rowhouses. The Lafayette Square Park is the focal point of the neighborhood and in the summer months hosts a concert and movie series along with special events.
A string of shops, bars and restaurants line Park Avenue adding to the area’s walkability and additional businesses are scattered throughout. You can enjoy small batch ice cream at Clementine’s, St. Louis style gooey butter cake at Park Avenue Coffee or hand-crafted cocktails at Planter’s House. Square One provides the area with a brewery and distillery and additional eateries include PW Pizza, Vin de Set, Eleven Eleven Mississippi, Polite Society, 33 Wine Bar and MayoKetchup.
